Real Love: Sounds from the East Side

Our project to record an original album of music was funded on April 3rd, and since then we’ve been engaged in songwriting sessions and recording vocals all over the city: at the school, at Tempermill Studio in Ferndale and at Get Fresh Studio on the East Side.

We also teamed up with saxophonist Gregory Walker and his talented quartet, who brought the kids’ music to a whole new level.

These pictures and vides come from our first recording session at Tempermill. For the first four hours, the kids laid down their solo and groups vocal takes to demo tracks, and then in the second half of the session, the band showed up and put flesh on the musical bones. While the quartet was at work, students ate chili cheese fries and greek salad, continued writing music in the green room, and sat in the control booth to witness the magic.

It was a beautiful first day, and set the tone for what this album will become.
